Widad Athletic Tlemcen, known as WA Tlemcen or WAT for short, is an Algerian football club based in the city of Tlemcen. It was founded in 1962. Its home stadium is “Colonel Lotfi Stadium”.
Starting with modest means and young players motivated by love of the club and the city, WAT was promoted to the 2nd division in 1969. Two years after that, in 1971, the club was promoted to the 1st division for the first time in its history, but unfortunately for not a long time and returning again in the 2nd division.
In 1974, the club back again to the 1st division, runner-up of the Algerian cup and also return again to the 2nd division. After that the club moved to current stadium, the 16.000 seats “Colonel Lotfi” Stadium in 1976. In 1984 the Club accessed for the 3rd time in the 1st division for only 3 years. In 1991, the club was promoted the 1st division for the 4th time, but now for 18 years. WAT won the Algerian cup 2 times in 1998 and 2002, and it was the runner-up 2 times also in 2000 and 2008. The club won also its first international title in 1998; the Arab champions league, one year after that it finished in the third place in the Arab super cup. In 2008 the club retrogrades to the 2nd division and return again to the 1st division one year later. In 2013, the club retrogrades again to the 2nd division.
